Violin for sale
£580 or near offer

This full-size violin is one of many strong, serviceable instruments made anonymously in Germany around 1890. It was bought privately by the present owner in the late 1970's and saw regular service in Finchley Chamber Orchestra from 1984 to 1999. It would suit a young player moving up from a 3/4 size instrument and looking for something with more character than a typical factory-made product from the Far East.

Twelve years ago it was given an insurance (i.e. replacement) valuation of £800 by J.P. Guivier & Co. However, valuations for sale are always lower than insurance valuations, and two independent informal professional valuations have indicated a private sale price in the region of £700.

As you can see, the violin is fitted with a Thomastik Infeld alloy tailpiece with four built-in screw adjusters for easy and stable tuning. The chin rest is of high quality and has been carefully fitted for maximum stability. The bridge is by W.E. Hill & Sons. The internal label says "Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1736" but you are not expected to believe it!

If you are interested, please arrange to try the instrument at the owner's home. It is offered with a simple, lightweight plastic storage/carrying case but no bow or shoulder rest. If you cannot bring your own, the owner can provide a bow and shoulder rest for your use in the trial.
